Mrs Salisbury’s - Coggeshall - Markshall Estate

Beating the January Blues

It's cold and frosty in north Essex right now, and we are fully in the midst of the January blues. With temperatures plummeting and the landscape covered in a sparkling frost, it's easy to feel a bit down. Adding to the challenge, our beloved Joey underwent TPLO surgery on his back leg about eight weeks ago, so our usual long but brisk winter walks are out of the question. Joey, of course, doesn't understand this and is desperate for some fun and a change of scenery.

A Delightful Retreat

In search of a cozy escape, we decided to head to Mrs Salisbury’s Tea Room in Markshall Estate, Coggeshall, last Sunday. Usually, we would wander around the beautiful grounds with Joey, but this time, brunch was our main agenda. The Tea Room, known for being dog-friendly and accommodating, welcomes well-behaved dogs that can fit under the table. We were seated at a spacious table for four, providing plenty of room for Joey to settle underneath. However, as soon as the enticing aroma of bacon filled the air, his big wet nose made a timely appearance!

A Tasty Brunch Experience

Our brunch selections were delightful. Mr. C ordered the California Scramble, a delicious and hearty choice, while I indulged in the French Toast, Berries, and Bacon, which was equally scrumptious. The combination of flavours was a perfect antidote to the winter chill outside.

Charming Ambiance

The Tea Room itself is a sight to behold. Housed in a beautifully decorated old barn, it exudes rustic charm and warmth. Despite it being January, the place was bustling with activity, a testament to its popularity. As of now, seating is walk-in only unless you're planning to enjoy afternoon tea. I can only imagine how much more popular it will become in the summer, hopefully with the addition of some outdoor seating to take in the lovely surroundings.

In all, our visit to Mrs Salisbury’s Tea Room was a delightful way to lift our spirits and enjoy a delicious meal, all while accommodating our recovering furry friend. It's an outing we look forward to repeating, especially when the weather warms up!
